The Anambra State Police Command has recorded major breakthroughs in its relentless fight against child trafficking and sexual offences.

In a statement signed by SP Tochukwu Ikenga, Police Public Relations Officer of the Command, the police disclosed that operatives of the State Criminal Investigation Department, Gender Unit, rescued a six-year-old victim who was stolen and trafficked. The child was recovered from an alleged foster parent in Ondo State following an intelligence-driven investigation into a case of conspiracy, child stealing, and trafficking transferred from Okpoko Police Station.

According to the statement, the rescued child has since been reunited with his biological mother, while all suspects connected to the crime have been charged before the Children, Sexual, and Gender-Based Violence Court for diligent prosecution.

Similarly, on August 13, 2025, operatives of the Rapid Response Squad, Awkuzu, responded to a distress call at Ebenebe Community involving the defilement of an 11-year-old girl and arrested one Uchenna Nweke, male, aged 18 years. Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect allegedly forced his way into the bathroom where the victim was bathing and unlawfully had carnal knowledge of her. A medical report further confirmed his culpability. The case is expected to be charged to court on Wednesday, August 20, 2025.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, reassured residents of the Command’s unwavering commitment to safeguarding children and vulnerable groups. He warned that perpetrators of such heinous crimes will face the full weight of the law.
