In a major breakthrough against violent crime, operatives of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) Awkuzu have arrested four suspected members of a notorious armed robbery and kidnapping syndicate in Anambra State.
The suspects: Chigozie Igboekwu (31), Odumegwu Chibuike (23), Jonah Awudu (40), and Okechukwu Nwari (33) were apprehended in the early hours of September 1, 2025, at Amansea, Awka.
The arrests followed credible intelligence on a kidnapping case earlier transferred to the squad from B Division Awka. Investigations revealed that the suspects had abducted two victims on August 12 in Amansea, held them for two days in a bush at Ugwuoba, Enugu State, and collected a ₦5 million ransom before releasing them.
According to Police Public Relations Officer SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the suspects have confessed to the crime, providing details of their roles in the conspiracy.
Commending the operatives, CP Ikioye Orutugu, assured Ndi Anambra that the Command remains fully committed to flushing out criminal elements and safeguarding lives and property across the state.
The case will be charged to court at the conclusion of investigations, while efforts continue to track down other fleeing gang members.
