The Anambra State Police Command has uncovered and dismantled an illegal factory producing toxic fake soft drinks in Okpoko, Ogbaru Local Government Area.
Operatives of the Rapid Response Squad, Awkuzu, stormed the factory on 3rd September 2025 and arrested a 48-year-old suspect, Chigozie Okafor, in connection with the illicit operation. Several cartons of fake juice, branded as “Iyi Obeleagu Juice”, were recovered. The products, manufactured without approval from the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), are considered highly dangerous to the health of both adults and children.
Confirming the development, the Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, ordered a thorough investigation to track down other collaborators.
He warned that anyone engaging in such criminal activities would face the full weight of the law, stressing that the Command remains committed to safeguarding public health.
The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, who signed the statement on Sunday, 7th September 2025, assured residents that efforts are ongoing to clamp down on similar illegal operations across the state.
