‎As part of sustained engagements toward a peaceful and credible November 8, 2025 Governorship Election in Anambra State, the Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, has continued his statewide security advocacy with strategic visits to Aguata and Otuocha Area Commands.
‎
‎Speaking during interactive sessions with officers, men, and stakeholders, CP Orutugu reaffirmed that “the Nigeria Police Force remains a strictly neutral and non-partisan institution.” He stressed that the Police “are not interested in who wins or loses the election, but are firmly committed to ensuring that the process is peaceful, credible, secure, and free of violence before, during, and after the polls.”
‎
‎The Commissioner charged Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers (DPOs), Tactical Commanders, and operational teams to uphold professionalism, discipline, and courtesy in the discharge of their duties. He further enjoined them to remain apolitical and guided strictly by the Electoral Act, the Police Code of Conduct, and Standard Operational Procedures.
‎
‎In continuation of the community engagement drive, CP Orutugu also met with Traditional Rulers, Religious Leaders, Town Union Executives, Youth and Women Organizations, Local Vigilante Groups, and other community security structures. Discussions centered on strengthening intelligence sharing, discouraging voter intimidation, countering electoral violence, and promoting peaceful civic participation.
‎
‎While commending communities in Otuocha for sustaining peace through dialogue and Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR), the CP encouraged the establishment of local peace committees to address civil disputes, particularly land-related matters, cautioning that such issues should not be misdirected to the Police as criminal cases.
‎
‎He assured Ndi Anambra of the Command’s readiness to secure the State during the election period, noting that adequate deployments, intelligence monitoring, and response units have already been activated. CP Orutugu urged political actors and community members to avoid actions or statements capable of inciting violence or undermining public peace.
‎
‎He emphasized that “the peace, unity, and collective stability of Anambra State remain paramount and above partisan interests.”
