‎The Airline Operators of Nigeria (AON) have praised the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) under the leadership of Comptroller-General Adewale Adeniyi, describing recent reforms as a turning point for the aviation sector.
‎
‎During a courtesy visit on September 22, the AON Board of Trustees, led by President Abdulmunaf Sarina, applauded the Customs for introducing investor-friendly policies that have reduced conflict and improved ease of doing business.
‎
‎Welcoming the delegation, Adeniyi highlighted the strategic role of AON in Nigeria’s economy.
‎
‎ “Your members are not just investors in aviation but strategic partners in our economy. We value the expertise and contributions you bring to the sector,” he said.
‎
‎The Customs boss explained that recent engagements with AON went beyond the controversial 4% Free on Board (FOB) levy, stressing that both sides reached “mutually beneficial conclusions.” He also listed reforms such as the Authorised Economic Operator (AEO) programme, aviation desks at ports, and advanced ruling for importers.
‎
‎On his part, AON Trustee and Air Peace Chairman, Allen Onyema, commended Adeniyi for adopting a business-friendly posture.
‎
‎ “In the past, dealing with Customs was like climbing a mountain blindly. We often fought and dragged issues to the media. But since CGC Adeniyi assumed office, the Service now listens, engages, and supports businesses. That is why we paid this first-ever courtesy call to say thank you,” Onyema said.
‎
‎He further hailed President Bola Tinubu for appointing Adeniyi, noting that reforms have boosted business operations, created jobs, and improved revenue.
‎
‎The AON pledged continued partnership with Customs to advance Nigeria’s aviation industry and strengthen the economy.
