The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Saturday expelled the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, and former Ekiti State governor, Ayodele Fayose, over alleged anti-party activities.
Their expulsion was announced at the party’s national convention held in Ibadan, Oyo State, where the National Secretary, Samuel Anyanwu, and eight other prominent members were also removed.
According to the communique, the decision was taken following a unanimous vote by delegates who accused the affected members of engaging in actions that undermined party unity, including instituting lawsuits considered detrimental to the PDP’s interests.
Elder statesman and PDP chieftain, Chief Bode George, moved the motion for the expulsion of 11 members, stressing that their conduct violated the collective values and stability of the party. The motion was seconded by the Chairman of the PDP in Bauchi State.
Presiding over the ratification, Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed presented the motion for adoption, and delegates overwhelmingly approved the expulsion.
Present at the convention were Governors Seyi Makinde (Oyo), Ahmadu Fintiri (Adamawa), Bala Mohammed (Bauchi), Dauda Lawal (Zamfara), and Caleb Mutfwang (Plateau), as well as the PDP National Chairman, Umar Damagum.
Also in attendance were Senate Minority Leader Abba Moro; former Osun State governor, Olagunsoye Oyinlola; and former Gombe State governor, Senator Ibrahim Dankwambo.
