The Anambra State Police Command has issued a stern warning to individuals and groups plotting to disrupt the ongoing New Yam celebrations across the state.
‎
‎Police spokesperson, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, in a statement on Friday, said intelligence reports have revealed attempts by some persons to organise parallel events and undermine community-recognised leadership.
‎
‎“The Command will not tolerate any acts capable of breaching the peace,” Ikenga declared. “Those who insist on defying authority or disrespecting traditional leadership during this festival will be dealt with decisively and made to face the full weight of the law.”
‎
‎He said the Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, has already directed Divisional Police Officers, tactical teams, and Area Commanders to intensify patrols, visibility policing, and intelligence gathering across all communities.
‎
‎“These measures are not mere routines,” the statement stressed. “They are deliberate steps to frustrate the plans of troublemakers and ensure that the New Yam Festival is celebrated in peace and order.”
‎
‎While congratulating Ndi Anambra on the cultural event, the Police Command maintained that it would not hesitate to clamp down on anyone attempting to hijack the festivities for selfish or disruptive purposes.
