The Agba Ohaeze Royal Family of Ogbekenu Village, Onicha-Ugbo in Delta State, has warned of imminent danger over the failed link road to Abuja passing through Onicha-Ugbo and Idumuje-Ugboko.
In a letter addressed to the Executive Chairman of Aniocha North Local Government Council, dated September 26, 2025, community representative, Mr. Laurence Izegbu, described the situation as “a ticking time bomb.”
According to him, “The road is now riddled with multiple deep potholes, making it hazardous for all users. Heavy-duty vehicles conveying inflammable products, chemicals, and other dangerous contents regularly use this road. The risk of accidents and potential environmental disasters is alarmingly high.”
Izegbu urged the Council Chairman to personally inspect the failed portion and forward an urgent report to the state government. He further advised the temporary closure of the road to avert disaster.
In his words: “In a sane society no government will allow heavy-duty vehicles to ply this road at this time. The continuous use of this road poses an unacceptable risk to the environment and human life.”
The letter also warned of rising community anger. “The youths of our area are growing increasingly frustrated with government inaction. They have threatened to close the road themselves if nothing is done within three days.”
The Royal Family appealed for immediate government intervention to repair the link road, describing it as a “critical infrastructure whose collapse endangers both lives and livelihoods.”
