In a major boost to security operations, troops of 22 Armoured Brigade under Operation Park Strike V have intercepted and neutralised an arms courier in Kwara State, seizing dangerous weapons meant for criminal elements.

Troops of 22 Armoured Brigade deployed at Patrol Base Bukungi have recorded another decisive success against insecurity with the neutralisation of an arms courier and the recovery of a cache of weapons during a snap check operation along the Share–Gbugbu Road in Edu Local Government Area of Kwara State.

“Acting on credible intelligence, our troops intercepted the vehicle and neutralised the courier, preventing dangerous weapons from reaching criminal networks,” said Captain STEPHEN NWANKWO, Acting Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, 22 Armoured Brigade. “This outcome highlights the professionalism and readiness of our men on the ground.”

The operation conducted on Thursday, 25 September 2025, followed credible intelligence on the movement of weapons from Birnin Gwari, Kaduna State. Acting on the tip-off, troops intercepted a Volkswagen Golf 3 vehicle with registration number Bayelsa SAG-133 XA. The driver attempted to flee but was swiftly neutralised by the vigilant troops.

A thorough search of the vehicle uncovered five AK-47 rifles and three magazines concealed in a charcoal sack. The interception took place at about 8:30 a.m., effectively disrupting the arms supply chain intended for criminal networks.

Commending the gallant troops, the Commander 22 Armoured Brigade, Brigadier General Ezra Barkins, hailed their resilience and professionalism. He urged them to sustain the momentum and reaffirmed the Brigade’s resolve to deny criminal elements any freedom of action within its area of responsibility.

General Barkins further reassured law-abiding residents of Kwara State and surrounding communities of their safety, stressing that troops will continue to intensify operations to protect lives and property.

He also called on the public to provide timely and credible information to security agencies, describing such cooperation as vital in defeating security threats.

The Nigerian Army restated its unwavering commitment to its constitutional mandate of defending the nation’s territorial integrity and ridding the country of all forms of criminal activity.
