*IGP flags off training on NPF criminal database systems

By Odita Sunday

‎
‎The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, has declared that the Nigeria Police Force is entering “a new era” with the launch of its criminal database systems training for operatives nationwide.
‎
‎Speaking at the official opening in September 2025, the IGP said: “Without data, there is no memory. Without memory, there is no justice. But with data, there is no hiding place for criminals.”

‎Egbetokun described the database system as “the heartbeat of intelligence-led policing” that will track repeat offenders, strengthen prosecutions, and link Nigeria into global platforms like INTERPOL.
‎
‎He charged trainees to treat their roles as custodians of crime data with utmost integrity:
‎
‎ “Your accuracy may determine whether a suspect walks free or faces justice. Every keystroke you make is a strike against crime.”
‎
‎The IGP also tied the reform to restoring citizens’ confidence:
‎
‎“No case will vanish into forgotten files. No conviction will disappear into silence. Trust begins with record-keeping.”
