As part of proactive policing measures for the ember months, the Delta State Police Command has held a high-level security meeting with the Bankers’ Forum to tighten safety around financial institutions ahead of the yuletide season.
The meeting, which took place on Tuesday, September 23, 2025, in Asaba, brought together the Chief Security Officer of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Asaba, Mrs. Evangeline Patrick, and 39 heads of banks across the state.
Representing the Commissioner of Police, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda, the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Operations, DCP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, stressed the need for banks to adopt stronger security strategies as criminal activities often spike during festive periods.
“It is important for bankers to take adequate security measures to checkmate the activities of criminals who may want to take advantage of the festive season. Functional CCTV systems and improved surveillance are critical to supporting police efforts,” Adejobi said.
Mrs. Patrick, speaking on behalf of the CBN, commended the initiative and emphasized the apex bank’s tough stance on security compliance.
“We do not release cash to banks without adequate police escort. Security is non-negotiable,” she declared.
The police command reiterated its commitment to ensuring a safe ember season for residents of Delta State.
“This meeting is just a tip of the iceberg. More proactive measures are underway to guarantee a crime-free yuletide,” Adejobi assured.
