The Lagos State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of one Adewale Mathew, the prime suspect in the violent assault and robbery of Nigerian hip hop star, Keshinro Ololade Sodiq, popularly known as Lil Kesh.

According to the State Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Moshood Jimoh, the suspect was tracked and apprehended in Kano State after weeks on the run. Detectives from the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Panti, Yaba, led a painstaking operation that led to his capture on Wednesday, September 17, 2025.

Police reports reveal that the incident occurred on July 19, 2025, at Chevron, Lekki, Lagos, where Lil Kesh had visited a female acquaintance. Armed with two sharp kitchen knives, Mathew allegedly broke into the residence through the rear window, launching a brutal attack that left the artiste with severe injuries to his throat and abdomen.

The suspect was said to have carted away the singer’s valuables, including gold jewelry worth millions of naira, and allegedly used Lil Kesh’s bank details to purchase additional gold worth over ₦5.2 million from a dealer in Yaba, Lagos.

Following his arrest, Mathew reportedly confessed to the crime and implicated the female host who accommodated the artiste on the day of the incident. He claimed she masterminded the attack.

The police, however, stated that investigations are ongoing to verify this claim.

Security guards at the residence where the incident took place are also being questioned as part of the probe.

Commending the operatives for their efforts, CP Jimoh reaffirmed the command’s commitment to flushing out criminal elements from Lagos.
“The Lagos Police Command remains resolute in pursuing offenders and dismantling criminal networks across the state. We urge members of the public to continue supporting our work with vital information,” the Commissioner stated.
