‎A fire outbreak on Monday engulfed a building on Broad Street, Lagos Island, sparking panic among residents and passersby as thick smoke billowed from the affected structure.
‎
‎The United Bank for Africa (UBA), whose branch is located in the building, has confirmed the incident but dismissed widespread reports on social media alleging that the inferno had spread to its iconic UBA House headquarters on Marina.
‎
‎“The affected building is not the UBA House, Marina, our Head Office,” the bank clarified in a statement, assuring that all staff and customers in the branch were safely evacuated.
‎
‎Emergency responders swiftly mobilized to the scene to prevent the fire from spreading to adjoining structures in the busy commercial hub. The cause of the fire was yet to be ascertained as at press time.
‎
‎UBA reiterated its commitment to the safety and well-being of its staff and customers, noting that operations at its head office and other branches remain unaffected.
