The Anambra State Police Command has decorated 89 Inspectors with their new ranks as Assistant Superintendents of Police (ASP), in a colourful ceremony held on Wednesday at the Command Headquarters, Awka.
The event, which drew senior officers, family members, and friends, also featured the formal induction of the officers into the Police Officers’ Mess — a symbolic rite marking their transition into the officer cadre of the Nigeria Police Force.
Representing the Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the Criminal Investigation Department, DCP Mantu Chong, congratulated the officers and reminded them that promotion comes with greater responsibilities.
“The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, PhD, NPM approved these promotions in recognition of your dedication and sacrifices. You must now justify the confidence reposed in you by ensuring effective service delivery and upholding the values of honesty, fairness, and accountability,” he said.
Chong charged the new ASPs to demonstrate professionalism, discipline, and leadership in their duties, stressing the importance of being role models to their subordinates. He also urged them to strengthen community collaboration in the fight against crime in Anambra State.
“Promotion is not just a reward for past effort but a call to higher service. The people of Anambra look up to you for security, fairness, and justice,” he added.
Speaking on behalf of the newly promoted officers, ASP Oliji Alfred expressed gratitude to the Police Service Commission and the Force Headquarters.
“We are deeply honoured by this recognition. We pledge to redouble our commitment to duty and live up to the expectations of our new ranks,” Alfred assured.
The ceremony ended with group photographs and induction formalities at the Officers’ Mess, underscoring the camaraderie and leadership values expected at their new level of service.
SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, described the day as “a milestone for the Command,” noting that the promotions would boost morale and enhance service delivery in Anambra.
