In a major step towards improving the welfare of police officers, the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, has sealed a strategic partnership with the Federal Ministry of Housing and Urban Development to deliver affordable housing for personnel across the country.

The collaboration was unveiled during the courtesy visit of the Honourable Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Arc. Ahmed Musa Dangiwa, to the Force Headquarters in Abuja on Tuesday, August 19, 2025.

According to the Minister, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved a landmark housing initiative designed to provide thousands of new homes for police officers nationwide. This, he explained, is part of the administration’s broader commitment to welfare-driven reforms in the security sector.

He further proposed the establishment of a National Task Force, comprising relevant ministries, agencies, and the Police, to recover and protect Federal Government lands from encroachment an issue that has slowed down or halted many critical development projects.

“By safeguarding these assets and prioritizing decent housing for our police personnel, we are directly strengthening national security,” Arc. Dangiwa said, while commending the Force for its professionalism and resilience in service to the nation.

Responding, IGP Egbetokun expressed gratitude for the President’s approval, calling the initiative “a direct solution to one of the most pressing welfare needs of our officers.”

For many police families, decent housing has long been a challenge. By addressing this gap, the IGP noted, the project would significantly boost morale, enhance professionalism, and improve operational effectiveness across the Force.

He also pledged the Police Force’s full support for the proposed National Task Force, stressing that reclaiming and protecting government land is of urgent national importance.

“Housing is more than just shelter, it’s a key pillar of welfare. For officers who work around the clock to keep communities safe, access to affordable, decent homes can make a world of difference in productivity, family life, and overall well-being.”

With this partnership, the Police and Housing Ministry are not only safeguarding national assets but also investing in the future of officers who put their lives on the line daily.

IGP Egbetokun affirmed, “The Nigeria Police Force remains committed to professionalism, excellence, and service to the nation, while ensuring the welfare of its officers remains a top priority.”
