The National Youth Committee of the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC) has issued a seven-day ultimatum to Omoyele Sowore, an activist and publisher of Sahara Reporters, demanding a public apology and retraction of what it described as false and defamatory allegations against Olumuyiwa Adejobi, Force Public Relations Officer.
In a press release signed by Junaid Victor, National Youth Coordinator, the Committee expressed strong disapproval of what it called “baseless and malicious accusations” made by Sowore during a recent protest at the Force Headquarters in Abuja.
The protest, which was held in solidarity with retired police officers, saw allegations by Sowore that Adejobi was involved in the disappearance of Artificial Intelligence (AI) eyeglasses.
Describing the claims as entirely without merit, the PCRC Youth Committee said the remarks were an attempt to tarnish the image of a disciplined and highly respected police officer.
It warned that such unfounded allegations not only smear individual reputations but also threaten the morale of officers within the Nigeria Police Force and undermine public confidence in national security institutions.
“The actions of Mr. Sowore are not only irresponsible but unbecoming of a public figure of his standing,.
“This is part of a deliberate attempt to discredit the police and destabilise the country’s security framework”, the statement read.
The Committee has demanded that Sowore issue a public apology to Adejobi and retract the statements via the same platforms on which the accusations were made.
It warned that failure to comply within seven days would prompt further action, including the exposure of alleged local and foreign sponsors said to be backing Sowore’s “destabilisation agenda.”
Reaffirming its support for the Nigeria Police Force, the PCRC said it remained committed to promoting integrity, professionalism, and trust between law enforcement and the communities they serve.
