Uneasy calm in Delta Community over killing of cult leader

There is palpable tension in Ogwashi-Uku, Aniocha South LGA of Delta following last Thursday killing of a suspected prominent cult kingpin, simply identified as Lucky by a rival cult group in the community.

Our correspondent who went round the community on Sunday reports that most businesses, especially drinking bars and game shops remained closed for fear of reprisal attacks.

A youth leader in Ogwashi-Uku, who pleaded anonimity said that the killing of Lucky, who is described as a “7 star General” within the Vikings Confraternity has raised tension in the community.

“Lucky is a well-known figure and a feared leader of his confraternity. Inshort, he is referred to as a 7-star general.

“Following his killing last Thursday, many residents are now apprehensive and living in fear. The peace of the community has been shattered.

“No doubt, there may likely be reprisals, that is why you see uneasy calm in the community. People are afraid of what may happen next,” said.

When contacted, the spokesperson for the Delta Police Command, DSP Bright Edafe told our correspondent on phone that the command is on top of the situation to ensure peace and security in Ogwashi-Uku.

“What happened in Ogwashi-Uku is a one-day incident one person was shot and killed and three other persons received gunshot injuries.

“As I speak with you now, we have some supects in custody over the shooting. I can tell you that the police is working to maintain peace and security in Ogwashi-Uku.

“After the incident, we carried out raids in the community, and arrested some suspects who are currently undergoing interrogation.

“Let me state here that there is no curfew in Ogwashi-Uku, nobody or authority has imposed curfew on the community. People should go about their businesses”, Edafe said
