As many Nigerians grapple with  the hardship precipitated by the global Covid-19 pandemic, the Executive Governor of Ebonyi State, Engr. Dave Nweze Umahi has come to the rescue of his subjects in Lagos State by donating 13,000 bags of 5kg rice and N13million to cushion the effects of the lockdown. Beneficiaries of the palliatives are indigenes of the 13 local government areas that make up the Development Association of Ebonyi State in Lagos. This means, each local government area is entitled to 1000 bags and N1million.

In a press statement issued by the President of the Development Association of Ebonyi, Mayor (Dr) Felix Amah Nnachi at the weekend, the palliatives which were facilitated by the “father” of Ebonyi indigenes in Lagos cum President of Ndigbo, Lagos; Major-General Abel Obi Umahi (rtd), the Executive Assistant to the Governor and Liaison Officer, Ebonyi State in Lagos; Mrs. Ogechi Anaso Kalu and himself were in line with the Governor’s historic humanitarian gestures.

According to Nnachi, his Governor  who has always factored the interests of Ebonyi indigenes in Lagos into his governance agenda was the first Governor among other state governors to practically donate some palliatives to the state indigenes residing in Lagos since the dawn of the Coronavirus lockdown and its attendant hardship.

Describing the Governor as a leader with the fear of God and love for his people, Nnachi recalled that last year, Governor Umahi gave empowerment assistance to the tune of N250million to Ebonyi indigenes in Lagos.  “This is despite the fact that the Governor is in his last term in office and not seeking a re-election that would necessitate any such assistance as may be the case elsewhere.”

The Governor; a time tested engineer who holds Fellowship of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (FNSE) and FNATE, has also been in the fore front of hosting the annual Ebonyi Cultural Day in Lagos in recent years.  “His recent donation to us was therefore not a surprise but we are ooverwhelmly joyful” Nnachi stated.

As the leader of Ebonyi indigenes in Lagos, Dr. Nnachi attributed much of the Governor’s show of love to them to the Governor’s innate character in the uplifting of his people both at home and in the diaspora.

According to him “the executive committee of the Development Association of Ebonyi under my leadership had promised to show  transparency in our administration and protect the interest of Ebonyians in all walks of life in Lagos.”

He applauded the support of the Governor to the Association and all Ebonyians in Lagos even as he urged them to continue supporting the Governor in executing his administration’s agenda.
