Skating Federation President announces 1st National Championship in Abuja

President of Nigeria Skating Federation, Major General Abdullahi Maikano has announced its first championship holding in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

Maikano who briefed newsmen alongside officials of the federation noted that the sports have come of age.

General Maikano is also the President of the Organisation of Military Sport in Africa (OSMA).

The Championship, tagged ABUJA2023″ is billed to hold between November 30 and December 3, 2023 at MKO Abiola National stadium and its environ.

No fewer than 2,000 youths would be participating in the 42.5 kilometres Skating Marathon, which would kick-start from Airport Road to the City Gate in Abuja under the watch of Federal Road Safety Commission and other security agencies.

“At the moment, 20 states including the FCT have indicated interest in sending Skaters to represent their states at the 1st National Skating Champions in Abuja, after which winners will be travelling to Greece to participate in the Championship.

 

“We aim to carry the Nigeria flag into the arena of National Skating competition in the world and Skating competitions wherever it is in the world and we will make sure that skating becomes popular in Nigeria among the Youths and the children.” He said.

 

He assured participants of safety and security.

 

He also disclosed that awards, prizes and Trophies would be presented to winners of each category and there would be medical support and ambulance on standby.

 

He noted that the technical team are working age limit for participating, which he pegged at 17 years old and above as requirement.

 

He added that there would be provision for children to participate in the competition.

 

He observed that past skating events have not only boosted the confidence of athletes but have also helped raise the profile of skating as a legitimate and competitive sports in the country.

 

“All these previous events have collectively contributed to the excitement and anticipation surrounding the First-ever National Skating Championship, ABUJA2023.”

 

“They serve as a testament to the dedication and hard work of the skating community in Nigeria and set the stage for what promises to be a memorable and historic competition.’’ He added.
