The Supreme Court has upheld Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s election as the Governor of Lagos State.

The court affirmed the earlier judgment of the Court of Appeal in Lagos, dismissing the appeal brought forth by Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour of the Labour Party on grounds of lacking merit.

The Apex Court says Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, the Labour Party (LP) governorship candidate’s appeal challenging the Appeal Court decision affirming Sanwo-Olu and his deputy lacks merit, and is therefore dismissed on that ground.

In a unanimous decision, the Apex Court panel stresses that acquisition of US citizenship doesn’t disqualify a person seeking to run for governor. It says being a citizen of Nigeria by birth makes one qualified to run.

Hence, the quest by the Labour Party to void the victory of the APC in the Governorship Election in Lagos State fails.
