The Nigeria Police Force has announced the fifth edition of the Conference and Retreat for Senior Police Officers, scheduled to take place from Monday, February 24, to Wednesday, February 26, 2025, in Abeokuta, Ogun State.
This was disclosed by the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Muyiwa Adejobi during a briefing held on Friday, January 24, 2025.
Speaking at the briefing, the Force PRO highlighted that the event, which brings together senior police officers from the rank of Commissioner of Police and above, serves as a critical platform for assessing the internal security performance of the Force. It also aims to develop strategies to enhance service delivery and ensure effective internal security in Nigeria.
Since its inaugural edition in Lagos in October 2019, the conference has grown into an annual tradition, convened by respective Inspectors-General of Police in collaboration with Lenders Consult International.
The retreat continues to be an avenue for senior police managers to exchange ideas and improve policing outcomes.
This year’s edition is themed: “Improving Nigeria’s Internal Security and Economic Prosperity Through Inclusive Policing.” The opening ceremony will hold on Monday, 24th February 2025, at 10:00 a.m. The event will be declared open by the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who will serve as the Special Guest of Honour.
Other dignitaries expected include the Senate President, Speaker of the House of Representatives, State Governors, the National Security Adviser, Legislators, Ministers, the Chief of Defence Staff, and heads of other security agencies. International guests from across Africa and beyond will also be in attendance.
The Force PRO emphasized that the theme underscores the critical role of inclusive policing in promoting national security and economic growth. It reflects the Inspector-General of Police’s (IGP) vision to transform the Nigeria Police Force into a professionally competent, service-driven, and people-friendly security institution.
The retreat will provide a forum for strategic police managers and global policing experts to engage in peer review, share best practices, and explore innovative strategies for implementing community-based internal security management.
In the last edition, the conference hosted the President of INTERPOL, Ahmed Naser Al Raisi, who commended Nigeria’s leadership role in international security and pledged to strengthen collaboration with the Nigeria Police Force.
The Inspector-General of Police, Dr. Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, remains committed to enhancing the institutional capacity of the Force to meet its statutory mandate. This year’s conference represents a significant step toward achieving that goal while aligning with the Federal Government’s agenda of economic prosperity and national development.
The Nigeria Police Force remains resolute in its mission to foster national security through professional and inclusive policing strategies.
