Odinigwe Advocates for Inclusive Access to Scientific Advancements as Delta State Marks World Science Day 2024

The Delta State Ministry of Science and Technology, in line with global observances, celebrated World Science Day for Peace and Development 2024 at the Chike Edozien State Secretariat, Asaba. The theme for this year, “Global Science for Global Wellbeing,” underscored the role of science in improving lives and fostering sustainable development.

In his keynote address, the Honourable Commissioner for Science and Technology, Dr. Odinigwe Daniel, called for inclusive access to the benefits of scientific advancements. He emphasized that science should be a tool for development accessible to all, contributing meaningfully to addressing global challenges such as climate change, public health, and inequality.

“Science is a powerful catalyst for progress and innovation. It drives solutions that enhance the well-being of individuals and communities. However, these benefits must not be confined to academic institutions or laboratories. They must reach every corner of our society,” Dr. Odinigwe stated.

The event also featured remarks by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Dr. Ejiro Ogheneaga, who is the newly inaugurated Chairman of The Delta Tech Xperience xperience Committee. This initiative, launched during the celebration, aims to promote technological literacy and innovation across Delta State.

The Director of Science and Technology Development, Mrs. Nkechi Chukwurah, whose department hosted the event, highlighted the importance of public engagement in scientific discourse. She emphasized that fostering collaboration among various stakeholders is crucial to ensuring that science remains a driving force for societal progress.

In her contribution, Professor Kate Iloba from Delta State University, Abraka, reflected on the transformative role of science in fostering peace and cooperation globally. She emphasized that continued scientific advancements are essential for addressing pressing global challenges.

The event saw active participation from other directors within the Ministry, who underscored their commitment to advancing the MORE Agenda of His Excellency, Rt. Hon. Elder Sheriff Oborevwori, through science and technology.

Dr. Odinigwe concluded by urging all participants to embrace science as a vehicle for societal progress, ensuring its benefits are inclusive and far-reaching.
