Targets Five Airports

May 28, 2020

The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has disclosed that plans had been for reopening of airports with adequate safety measures guidelines being put in place, saying the aviation industry will resume local operations with only five airports.
It explained that the decision was reached by stakeholders in the industry after the gradual reopening of the economy and as part of measures to mitigate the spread of the virus in the country and protect travelers, and airport officials and workers.
NCAA Director-General, Musa Nuhu, said parts of the measures being considered by the airport authorities to ensure compliance to social distancing as directed by health experts and the government was to leave the middle seat of every flight vacant.
Nuhu who announced this speaking during the Webinar organized by the Aviation Safety Round Table Initiative (ART) titled COVID-19: “The Challenges and Opportunity for Nigeria’s Aviation Value Chain, During and Post”, maintained that the industry will stop at nothing in prioritizing the safety of all travelers and airport officials.
“We may resume domestic operations with four or five airports and we expand as we get better. We don’t want to rush everything at the same time and get it choked up. If you do that, ( there will be ) extra expenses and airlines need money.
“Every money is important and we cannot achieve the 2 meters physical distance but we are hopeful in the next few days we can resolve that,” he said.
