Lagos State commissioner of police (CP), Hakeem Odumosu, has appointed a Judicial Liaison Officer (JLO) to work with the Legal Aid Council of Nigeria and other relevant Non-Governmental Organisations, agencies and Civil Liberty Organisations (CLOs) to promote smooth and prompt dispensation of justice in the state.
Odumosu announced the appointment of the Officer in Charge of Legal Department at the Lagos State police headquarters, SP Yetunde Cardoso, today while receiving a delegation from the Legal Aid Council, South West Zone, led by Mrs Lateefat Salawu, in his Ikeja office.
According to a statement from the Lagos State police spokesman, SP Muyiwa Adejobi, Cardoso will liaise between the Council, agencies and the Police to make sure the Human Right Desk of the State Command is active. She will also expedite actions on cases and matters related to the Administration of Justice in the state.
Adejobi stated: “The Commissioner of Police assured the Council of his commitment to support its efforts on the Police Duty Solicitors Scheme (PDSS) which provides enabling atmosphere for easy assess to Police facilities and suspects by designated members of the Council.
“In her response, the Zonal Director of the Legal Aid Council, South West, Mrs Lateefat Salawu, who was accompanied by the representatives of the Nigerian Bar Association, Lagos State chapter, Barrister Okey Ilofulunwa, European Union, etc, commended the Police boss for his proactiveness and spontaneous response to issues and protection of lives and property.
“Mrs Lateefat also promised that the council will work in partnership with the Police to ensure prompt dispensation of justice to strengthen the Criminal Justice System in the state.”
