The Federal High Court in Abuja has convicted the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, on five out of the seven terrorism-related charges brought against him by the Federal Government.

In a ruling delivered on Thursday, Justice James Omotosho held that the prosecution had presented “uncontroverted evidence” showing that Kanu made several broadcasts aimed at inciting violence, encouraging attacks, and promoting killings in furtherance of his separatist campaign for an independent Biafra State.

The court also found him guilty of belonging to an unlawful association, incitement, and unlawful provocation, stressing that his actions were consistent with activities that threatened national security and public safety.

Justice Omotosho said the prosecution successfully established that Kanu used his broadcasts to issue inflammatory statements capable of triggering unrest, noting that the defence failed to counter or disprove the evidence presented.

The judgment is still being delivered at the time of filing this report.
