As Anambra State prepares for its governorship election this Saturday, the Police Service Commission (PSC) has deployed staff monitors to the three senatorial zones of the state to ensure police officers conduct themselves professionally throughout the exercise.

The National Coordinator and Chairman of the Commission, DIG Hashimu Argungu (rtd), mni, issued a stern warning to police officers on election duty to maintain strict impartiality, discipline, and professionalism in line with their rules of engagement.

He emphasized that the police must protect both electoral officials and materials while ensuring a conducive environment for voters to exercise their rights freely and without intimidation.

“The Anambra election should serve as a test case for the Police as the nation prepares for the 2027 General Elections,” Argungu stated.

Commending the Anambra State Police Command for its level of preparedness, the PSC Chairman lauded the efforts of the State Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, fwc, PhD, who has reportedly toured all area commands and identified flashpoints in the state to guarantee a peaceful and credible election.

Argungu assured that the Commission would commend officers who demonstrate professionalism and integrity during the polls while sanctioning those who compromise their duties.

According to the statement signed by Ikechukwu Ani, Head of Press and Public Relations at the Commission, PSC monitors will operate from Awka, the state capital, and across the three senatorial districts of Anambra State.
