The Anambra State Police Command has stepped up its security operations ahead of the forthcoming Governorship Election, following the arrival of the Force Headquarters Advance Tactical Teams and deployment of surveillance helicopters and drones across the state.
The tactical reinforcement, approved by the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, is aimed at strengthening the state’s security architecture and ensuring a peaceful electoral process.
Speaking during the reception of the teams in Awka, the Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, expressed gratitude to the IGP for his “unwavering support and commitment to the safety of lives and property in Anambra State.”
According to Orutugu, “the aerial surveillance will complement ongoing land patrols by tactical units, intelligence operatives, and special police squads deployed across all 21 Local Government Areas of the state. Our combined efforts will further enhance visibility policing, intelligence-driven operations, and rapid response to emerging threats.”
He noted that the deployment of helicopters and surveillance drones would provide real-time monitoring of key locations, border communities, and flashpoints, adding that “ground teams will maintain robust patrols and checkpoint operations throughout the state.”
Reaffirming the Command’s readiness to work closely with sister security agencies, Orutugu assured that “every measure is being taken to maintain peace, law, and order, especially as the Governorship Election draws nearer.”
The Police boss also urged residents to remain calm and vigilant, urging them to promptly report suspicious persons or movements to the nearest police station or through the Command’s emergency hotlines — 07039194332 or 08039334002.
“The Anambra State Police Command remains committed to ensuring a secure environment where law-abiding citizens can go about their lawful duties without fear or intimidation,” Orutugu added.
He assured that “the Command will continue to operate in synergy with other agencies to maintain public confidence and sustain peace across the state.”
