The Anambra State Police Command has confirmed the foiling of an attempted armed attack on Ezinifite Community in Nnewi South Local Government Area during the early hours of Monday, October 27, 2025.
According to a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the swift intervention of a combined security team comprising police operatives and members of the Agunechamba Vigilante Group successfully repelled the assailants.
The attackers reportedly engaged the security team in a gun battle, resulting in the neutralization of one suspect, while others fled into nearby bushes with suspected gunshot wounds. A pump-action gun and the body of the neutralized suspect were recovered at the scene.
SP Ikenga further revealed that offensive and intelligence-led operations are ongoing, with tactical teams combing the area to apprehend the fleeing suspects.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, praised the prompt response and courage of the local security operatives. He reassured residents of the Command’s readiness to maintain peace and safety across the state, particularly as the November 8, 2025 Governorship Election draws near.
