As part of intensified preparations for the forthcoming Anambra State Governorship Election slated for November 8, 2025, the Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, fwc, minps, PhD, has embarked on a statewide tour to assess personnel readiness and strengthen collaboration with community stakeholders toward ensuring a peaceful and credible poll.

During a working visit to the Nnewi Area Command on October 22, 2025, CP Orutugu charged officers to remain professional, vigilant, and impartial in the discharge of their duties before, during, and after the election. He reminded them of the Inspector-General of Police’s directive mandating the highest standards of conduct and neutrality in the electoral process.

The Police Commissioner also held an interactive session with critical stakeholders in Nnewi, where he reiterated the IGP’s directive on land-related disputes, emphasizing that such matters must be resolved through competent courts of law rather than self-help.

He further appealed to Ndi Nnewi to show greater interest in joining the Nigeria Police Force, noting that such participation enhances local representation at the federal level while fostering patriotism and trust between the police and the community.

In their remarks, community leaders and other stakeholders lauded the Police Command’s proactive engagement, describing it as a positive step toward building confidence ahead of the polls. They commended CP Orutugu for his leadership and the command’s efforts to ensure security and order across Anambra State.

The Area Commander, Nnewi, ACP Augustine Oyamiele, expressed appreciation to the Commissioner for his visit and pledged the unwavering commitment of officers under his command to uphold professionalism and ensure a hitch-free election.

The event was attended by representatives of the Local Government Chairman, traditional rulers, Presidents-General of various communities, members of the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC), and other security stakeholders within the area.
