In a firm response to rising incidents of mob attacks, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has issued a stern warning against acts of jungle justice, emphasizing that such behavior is criminal and punishable under the law.

This follows an unfortunate incident on October 13, 2025, in the Gwagwalada area of the FCT, where an angry mob assaulted a young woman suspected of attempting to steal a two-year-old child. Swift intervention by patrol officers from the Tungan Maji Division saved the victim from further harm and restored order in the area.

The Commissioner of Police, FCT, CP Ajao S. Adewale, psc, mnips, condemned the mob action, describing it as a violation of human rights and a dangerous trend that could lead to the wrongful punishment of innocent individuals. He stressed that no citizen has the right to take the law into their hands, no matter the provocation.

“Jungle justice is a criminal act and will not be tolerated under any circumstances,” CP Adewale stated. “Residents are urged to hand over suspects to the Police for proper investigation and prosecution in accordance with the law.”

The Command disclosed that a discreet investigation has been launched into the alleged case of child theft and assured the public that justice will be served. CP Adewale further warned that anyone caught participating in mob attacks would be arrested and prosecuted, noting that such actions undermine the rule of law and ongoing efforts to ensure peace and security in the nation’s capital.

The Police Command also appealed to residents to stay calm, vigilant, and law-abiding, while encouraging them to report suspicious activities through the following emergency numbers:
📞 08032003913, 08028940883, 08061581938, 07057337653
📞 Police Control Room: 09115629111

Reiterating that security is a shared responsibility, the FCT Police Command called on all residents to work hand in hand with law enforcement agencies to maintain a peaceful and just society.
