In a bid to ensure orderly migration and strengthen national security, the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has introduced a Post-Amnesty Voluntary Return and Documentation Programme (PAVRDP) for foreign nationals who failed to regularize their stay or exit the country during the recently concluded Expired Visa Initiative (Amnesty), which ended on 30th September 2025.
According to a statement signed by ACI AS Akinlabi, Service Public Relations Officer, the new programme is set to commence on 13th October 2025, providing an opportunity for affected individuals to report at the nearest Immigration Command for registration and documentation.
The Service explained that each case will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis in accordance with the Immigration Act, 2015 and other relevant regulations before determining appropriate actions.
The NIS further warned that any foreign national who has breached the conditions of their visa and fails to report under the PAVRDP risks arrest, detention, and removal from Nigeria, with possible long-term entry bans.
In addition, the Service cautioned individuals, companies, and organizations against aiding or harbouring illegal immigrants, describing it as a punishable offense under Nigerian law. It also reminded the public that violating the conditions of stay regularization constitutes an offense.
Reaffirming its commitment, the NIS stated that it remains dedicated to promoting humane, seamless, and orderly migration, while ensuring compliance with extant immigration laws and strengthening national security through effective migration management.
