The Acting Director, Army Public Relations, Lt Col OA Anele, has emphasized the urgent need for stronger collaboration between the Nigerian Army and the media in combating propaganda, misinformation, and disinformation that threaten national security.
‎
‎He made the call during his closing remarks at the Directorate of Army Public Relations Combined Third and Fourth Quarters Media Training Seminar 2025, held on 9 October in Abuja.
‎
‎Lt Col Anele noted that modern warfare is not won by weapons alone but also by control of information. “In today’s complex security environment, the battle is not won by firepower alone, but equally by the mastery of information,” he said. “Propaganda and falsehoods have become dangerous weapons in the hands of terrorists and saboteurs.”
‎
‎According to him, the Nigerian Army remains steadfast in its constitutional duty to defend the nation’s sovereignty, but success requires the active support of the media. “You are not bystanders in this fight; you are strategic partners whose reports shape perception and mobilize public confidence in the armed forces,” he stated.
‎
‎Lt Col Anele commended the seminar’s facilitators and participants for their contributions, urging them to “deny adversaries the oxygen of propaganda and amplify the truth of our collective resolve against criminality.”
‎
‎On behalf of the Chief of Army Staff, Lt Gen OO Oluyede NAM, nmi, the Acting DAPR expressed gratitude to all attendees and formally declared the training closed.
