FCT Police Clarifies: Alleged Killing of Wedding Guests Happened in Niger, Not Abuja

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has corrected a Daily Trust report suggesting that kidnappers killed two wedding guests within Abuja, insisting that the incident occurred in Niger State, outside the FCT’s jurisdiction.
‎
‎According to a statement issued on Monday by the Command’s spokesperson, SP Josephine Adeh, the areas referenced in the report — Garam, Rafin-Azum, and Tafa Local Government Area — all fall within Niger State.
‎
‎ “The Suleja Police Area Command cited in the story is also under the Niger State Police Command, not the FCT Command,” Adeh clarified.
‎
‎She emphasized that the publication’s headline was misleading, as no such incident occurred in the Federal Capital Territory.
‎
‎The statement added that while the Command sympathizes with victims and acknowledges the closeness of these communities to Abuja, it is vital for the media to “maintain geographical accuracy to prevent unnecessary fear among residents.”
‎
‎FCT Commissioner of Police, CP Ajao S. Adewale, urged residents to stay vigilant and promptly report suspicious persons or movements through the Command’s hotlines: 08032003913 and 08061581938.
