Concerned Indigenes of Aniocha North Local Government Area, residing in the United States and the United Kingdom, have raised alarm over what they described as “deplorable governance and dangerous neglect” in their local communities, especially concerning critical infrastructure.
In a communiqué addressed to the Delta State Government and the people of Nigeria, the group expressed dismay over the collapse of the Onicha-Ugbo/Idumuje Ugboko Road, which they said has remained in disrepair for more than a year.
According to the statement signed by Mr. Tony Mudalue on behalf of the diaspora indigenes, the failure to rehabilitate the road has caused untold hardship to residents and created a major safety risk.
“Heavy trailers carrying fuel and other chemicals ply these roads daily. This is a ticking time bomb, and yet no action has been taken to avert a potential disaster. In any decent society, this level of negligence would not be tolerated,” the communiqué noted.
The group further lamented that investments made in their hometowns were being jeopardized by poor infrastructure and lack of government responsiveness.
“We have invested heavily in our community through housing and development, yet our efforts are undermined by the government’s irresponsible behavior. It is distressing to see the people’s welfare treated with such disregard,” they stated.
The diaspora community called for accountability from elected representatives, including Senator Ned Nwoko, Hon. Ngozi Okolie, Hon. Emeka Nwobi, and Mr. Emmanuel Chinye, urging them to “serve the people with honesty and urgency.”
They also warned that they would take their campaign for accountability beyond Nigeria.
“We will no longer tolerate corruption and incompetence. Public office holders who fail the people will be placed on a watchlist. Whenever they visit the United States or Europe, their record of failure will be exposed. It will not be business as usual,” the group declared.
The communiqué concluded with a demand for urgent intervention by the state government, stressing that the people of Aniocha North deserve safety, functional infrastructure, and responsible leadership.
