The Police Service Commission (PSC) has expressed deep shock over the death of its former Chairman, DIG Parry Osayande (rtd), describing him as a consummate police officer and visionary leader who played a pivotal role in shaping the Commission during its formative years.
In a statement signed by Ikechukwu Ani, Head of Press and Public Relations, the PSC said Osayande’s passing comes barely a month after the demise of another former Chairman, Solomon Arase, leaving the Commission in mourning twice within a short period.
“DIG Parry Osayande was fearless, focused, and had a commanding presence, which gave the Commission a lot of mileage during its formative period,” the statement read.
Osayande, who succeeded Chief Simon Okeke as Chairman of the PSC, was appointed in April 2008 by former President Goodluck Jonathan. His tenure was marked by significant achievements, including securing Presidential approval for a corporate headquarters for the Commission, now standing in the Jabi District of Abuja.
Chairman of the Commission, DIG Hashimu Argungu (rtd), described the loss as monumental. “The death of DIG Osayande is a great loss for the Commission. I call on Nigerians to remember us in their prayers in this trying period of losing two of our former Chairmen within a month,” Argungu said.
DIG Osayande reportedly died early Sunday in Benin, Edo State.
