The Chairman, Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Taraba State Council, Comrade Mathew Eliud Jen, is seeking effective collaboration with the State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board for closer Media relations.
Comrade Jen stated this during a working visit to the Management of the Board in Jalingo the state capital.
Comrade Jen said the visit was to identify with the board’s activities, which, according to him, extend beyond the state to the international Muslim community.
He commended the board for its efforts in coordinating Hajj operations and called for stronger collaboration between the board and the media to enhance public awareness, especially among intending pilgrims.
Responding, the Acting Executive Secretary of the Board, Alhaji Abubakar Usman Tanko, appreciated the NUJ Chairman for the visit and assured him of the board’s readiness to partner with the media.
Alhaji Tanko said media engagement is essential to the board’s operations, as the activities surrounding Hajj are often under-reported.
He therefore appealed to the NUJ to assist in drawing the attention of relevant authorities to the need for increased media coverage of Hajj activities, both at home and in the holy land.
The Acting Executive Secretary also explained that the minimum deposit for the 2026 Hajj exercise has been fixed at 8.5 million naira, as announced by the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria.
