In a symbolic gesture aimed at celebrating the pillars of Lagos politics, Publisher of August24news.com, Ajagbe Adeyemi Teslim, on Monday presented a specially designed Governance Advisory Council (GAC) Frame to the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. (Dr) Mudashiru Ajayi Obasa.
The colourful presentation took place in the Speaker’s office at Alausa, Ikeja, with the frame showcasing the names, photographs, local governments and senatorial districts of the 35 distinguished members of the Lagos GAC – widely regarded as the state’s highest decision-making body.
Speaking at the event, Ajagbe explained that the initiative was born out of the desire to “celebrate unity and honour the 35 wise men and women whose ideas and sacrifices have continued to shape Lagos politics.”
According to him, “This project is more than a frame; it is a visual history that honours our leaders, motivates upcoming politicians and preserves the legacy of political stewardship in Lagos. We believe the GAC deserves this recognition.”
The GAC, established during the era of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu (GCFR) as Lagos governor, has remained the brain trust behind the state’s enduring political stability. Prominent figures listed on the frame include President Bola Tinubu, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Rt. Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila, Prince Tajudeen Olusi, and Deputy Governor Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, among others.
Also honoured are eight late members of the council such as Chief Kemi Nelson, Ambassador Rasak Demola Seriki, and Oba Olatunji Hamzat, who were given a tribute section in the frame.
Receiving the frame with delight, Speaker Obasa commended the effort, describing it as a “brilliant research work that immortalises the contributions of our political elders.”
He added, “This frame will occupy a pride of place in my office archives so that future generations can know the legends who built Lagos politics. I commend Ajagbe and his team for this creativity and dedication.”
The Speaker also called for a minute’s silence in honour of the deceased GAC members.
Reacting, GAC Secretary Alhaji Mutiu Are described the council as “one of the beauties of Lagos politics,” while Political Analyst and Publisher of Upshot Media, Mr. Mojeed Jamiu, praised the initiative, saying the members deserved even greater recognition for their role in good governance.
Ajagbe further disclosed that the presentation to the Lagos Assembly was the beginning of a wider rollout: “We intend to also present the GAC frame to the Governor, his deputy, commissioners, lawmakers, council chairmen and other party loyalists.”
