The Delta State Police Command has arrested four suspected kidnappers and armed robbers, recovering an AK-47 rifle, the victim’s SUV, a Toyota Matrix used for operations, and a network jammer.
Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, disclosed this in a statement issued from Asaba on Monday, noting that the arrests were made following intelligence-led operations.
According to Edafe, operatives led by the DPO Ekpan, CSP Labe Joseph, on September 12 arrested two suspects — Elvis Ebroghro (36) and Abiola Adegore (34), both residents of Ometan.
“They were first sighted on September 11 attempting to steal a vehicle battery but threatened a community security guard who challenged them,” Edafe said.
He added that Elvis later confessed, which led to the arrest of another suspect, Lucky Ebroghro, and the recovery of an AK-47 rifle concealed in an isolated building within the community.
The police also smashed a kidnapping ring in Ogwashi-Uku on September 8, rescuing a victim who had been abducted from his home.
“Despite collecting a ransom of ₦2 million, the kidnappers still shot the victim in the leg before abandoning him in the bush,” the statement said.
The Special Anti-Kidnapping and Cyber Squad, led by CSP Godwin Osadolor, arrested suspects including Chukwuebuka Nka (25), Uche Okechukwu, and Somto Chukwuma (18), across Delta, Anambra, and Imo States.
The suspects’ operational Toyota Matrix and a network jammer device were recovered, alongside the victim’s white Venza SUV.
Commissioner of Police, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda, praised the operatives, stressing that criminals will find no safe haven in Delta.
“We will continue to dismantle criminal networks across the state. The message is clear, there is no hiding place for criminals in Delta State,” he said.
