The Enugu State Police Command has dismissed as false and misleading reports circulating on social media that the country home of Deputy Inspector-General of Police, DIG Frank Mba, in Ezimo, Udenu Local Government Area, was attacked by gunmen.
In a statement issued by the Command’s spokesperson, SP Daniel Ndukwe, on Sunday, the police clarified that there was no attack on the residence of DIG Mba nor any attempt to kidnap his parents or relatives.
Instead, Ndukwe explained that on 18th September 2025, around 8 p.m., operatives on routine patrol within Ezimo community responded swiftly to a distress call and successfully repelled an armed robbery incident.
Tragically, a police officer sustained gunshot wounds during the confrontation and later died at the hospital despite efforts by doctors to save him.
The Command confirmed that one male suspect has been arrested and is currently assisting investigators, while a manhunt is underway for other fleeing members of the gang.
Commissioner of Police, CP Mamman Bitrus Giwa, psc, has directed operatives to intensify the pursuit of the criminals, stressing that the Command remains fully committed to crushing violent crimes in Enugu State.
“The public is urged to disregard the fake viral reports and support the police with timely and credible information that will aid our operations,” the statement read.
