As the world marked the International Day of Peace 2025 on Sunday, the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) joined the global call for unity and harmony, stressing that peace is not merely the absence of conflict but the foundation for development, security, and shared prosperity.
Speaking on the theme “Act Now for a Peaceful World,” the NAF said its role in nation-building goes far beyond defending the country’s airspace.
In a statement, the Force emphasized that its duty includes deterring aggression, fostering stability, and supporting humanitarian efforts during crises and natural disasters.
“For us in the Nigerian Air Force, peace goes beyond the absence of war. It is about promoting harmony, cooperation, and compassion. While safeguarding our skies remains our core mandate, we also stand with communities in times of need and crises,” the statement read.
The Air Force further highlighted that through international collaborations, joint exercises, and global partnerships, it continues to deepen trust and build stronger cooperation aimed at sustaining peace and security.
Communities across Nigeria have also felt this impact through NAF’s civil-military initiatives, ranging from medical outreaches to empowerment programmes. These, the Force says, are designed to nurture a culture of peace by protecting civilians and promoting dialogue.
“On this special day, we reaffirm our commitment to peace, unity, and understanding. A safer and more harmonious world is possible when we act together,” the NAF declared.
Residents who have benefited from NAF’s humanitarian outreach in conflict-prone areas described the initiative as life-saving. A community leader from Borno State noted:
“Beyond fighting insurgency, NAF has brought us medical help, food, and relief. They show us that the military can be our protector, not just a fighter.”
The International Day of Peace, established by the United Nations, is observed annually on September 21 to strengthen the ideals of peace through cooperation among nations and people.
For the NAF, the message was clear: peace remains a collective responsibility, and the time to act is now.
