The Commissioner of Police, Police Special Fraud Unit (PSFU) Lagos, CP Rose Chollom Dung, has urged financial institutions and regulatory bodies to close ranks with the Unit in the fight against fraud and financial crimes.
Speaking at a strategic meeting held on Thursday, September 18, 2025, with representatives of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation (NDIC), Nigeria Inter-Bank Settlement System Plc (NIBSS), and compliance officers of banks and FinTechs, CP Dung reaffirmed PSFU’s commitment to “building stronger synergy and working collaboratively to safeguard the nation’s financial system.”
The CP did not mince words on the hurdles facing investigations, listing “delays in response to official requests, bureaucratic bottlenecks during urgent operations, and the unprofessional act of tipping off suspects” as recurring challenges.
She further pointed to gaps in real-time information sharing and lapses in inter-agency collaboration as bottlenecks undermining effective investigations. “Overcoming these obstacles requires stronger collaboration, improved compliance culture, and a collective commitment by financial institutions to support PSFU Lagos,” Dung stressed.
At the end of the engagement, stakeholders renewed their pledge to strengthen partnerships, improve compliance practices, and fast-track response mechanisms in tackling financial crimes across the country.
