The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has taken part in a high-level National Crisis Response Simulation Exercise, code-named “Ex Rapid Response 2”, organized by the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA).

The exercise, held at the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre, Abuja, tested inter-agency collaboration in responding to terrorist threats. It featured a simulated Marauding Terrorist Firearms (MTFA) attack, with security forces neutralizing the threat while NEMA coordinated first responders in casualty management and emergency response.

Specialized units such as K-9 squads, Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear (CBRN) teams, Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) operatives, Hazmat experts, and mass casualty evacuation systems were deployed during the exercise.

NEMA’s Director General, Mrs. Zubaida Umar, praised the synergy among agencies, stressing that the exercise exposed critical gaps and highlighted the need for continuous training, resource sharing, and stronger cooperation to improve the nation’s emergency preparedness.

“This simulation has once again demonstrated the importance of collaboration among stakeholders in tackling emergencies of national concern,” Umar noted.

Rear Admiral Emmanuel Nmoyel, Director of Presidential Communications, Command and Control Centre, who coordinated the exercise, explained that its main objective was to strengthen inter-agency synergy, boost joint operations, and build resilience against emerging security threats.

As the lead agency for mass casualty management and public health emergency coordination, NEMA reaffirmed its commitment to enhancing inter-agency collaboration in line with the Federal Government’s efforts to fortify national security and disaster management capacities.
