The Anambra State Police Command has uncovered a shocking scheme after arresting a man who posed as a mentally unstable person while cultivating a hidden marijuana farm in Awka.
The suspect, 43-year-old Patrick Ojele, was nabbed on 17th September 2025 by operatives attached to the Operations Department, Awka, during a routine patrol along the Awka–Enugu Expressway near Ngozika Estate. Upon interrogation, he led officers to a concealed farm where large quantities of weeds suspected to be cannabis sativa were recovered.
Confirming the arrest, Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu fwc MNIPS PhD, said the breakthrough underscores the Command’s renewed drive to choke off drug supplies that fuel cultism and violent crimes across the state.
He further directed that the suspect be transferred to the Special Anti-Cultism Squad (SPACS), Enugwu-Ukwu, for discreet investigation to identify his buyers and dismantle his supply chain.
Police spokesperson SP Tochukwu Ikenga, in a statement on Thursday, September 18, 2025, assured residents that the Command remains committed to exposing criminal disguises and strengthening community safety.
