The President of the Defence and Police Officers Wives Association (DEPOWA), Mrs. Oghogho Gwabin Musa, on Saturday, September 13, 2025, led members of the association, families of military, FRSC, Customs and police officers, as well as women fitness enthusiasts, in the monthly Walk for Health aerobics exercise held in Mogadishu Barracks, Abuja.

The event, which is one of DEPOWA’s flagship wellness programmes, brought together women and youths from the barracks community to promote healthy living, physical fitness, and social bonding among families of officers and men of the Armed Forces and Police.

Participants embarked on a fitness walk covering designated routes around Asokoro, after which they engaged in aerobics, dance sessions, and medical checks, including blood pressure screenings.

Speaking at the exercise, Mrs. Musa said the initiative underscores DEPOWA’s commitment to the overall well-being of its members and their families. According to her, the “Walk for Health” is not only aimed at improving physical fitness but also at reducing stress, encouraging mental wellness, and fostering unity within the military and police community.

She also noted that DEPOWA, under her leadership, is placing premium on health advocacy, cleanliness of military environment, empowerment programmes, and community service as part of its broader vision of complementing the sacrifices of officers in active service.

Some participants who spoke at the event described the monthly exercise as refreshing and impactful. They praised DEPOWA for sustaining the programme, stressing that it has not only improved their health but also strengthened camaraderie among officers’ families.

The Walk for Health has, over the months, become a rallying point for promoting fitness, discipline, and social interaction within the military and police community in Abuja and beyond.

FCT Mandate Secretary for Women Affairs, Dr Adedayo Benjamins-Laniyi, lauded Mrs Musa for her leadership and commitment to the well-being of military Wives and children.
