Troops of Operation Hadin Kai have once again dealt a decisive blow to Boko Haram and ISWAP fighters, killing 13 insurgents during a failed ambush along the Gubio–Damasak road in Borno State.
The encounter took place on Wednesday, September 3, 2025, near Kareto, when terrorists attempted to disrupt a military convoy escorting humanitarian supplies. According to military authorities, the insurgents first detonated two command Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) and followed up with heavy gunfire.
“The gallant troops swiftly took position and professionally suppressed the insurgents with overwhelming firepower, eliminating 13 terrorists instantly, while others fled in disarray,” said Lieutenant Colonel Sani Uba, Media Information Officer of the Joint Task Force, Operation Hadin Kai.
He disclosed that the soldiers not only repelled the attack but also pursued the fleeing terrorists, recovering eight AK-47 rifles, ten AK-47 magazines, a large cache of 7.62mm ammunition, camel bags, several rolls of detonating cord wires, and multiple primed IEDs.
Despite the success, Uba confirmed that a soldier was slightly wounded and is in stable condition, while four MRAP tyres were damaged and two trucks went up in flames during the clash.
“The determined troops have sustained deliberate operations in the general area to deny the terrorists freedom of action while ensuring the safe delivery of humanitarian relief materials, which have since been secured and moved to Damasak,” he added.
The latest operation underscores the military’s resolve to maintain pressure on insurgent groups and secure vital humanitarian corridors in the Northeast.
