Onicha-Ugbo community in Aniocha North Local Government Area of Delta State came alive on Monday, September 2, 2025, as grassroots politician and philanthropist, Sir Laurence Chukwudi Izegbu, chose to celebrate his birthday in an uncommon way, reaching out to the less privileged and vulnerable in society.
Rather than hosting an elaborate party, Sir Izegbu dedicated the day to touching lives from far United Kingdom, where he is holidaying.
He personally fed over 70 people across the Onicha-Ugbo villages of Ishiekpe, Ogbeobi, Ogbekenu and Umuolo, providing warm meals and relief items to those in desperate need. His gesture drew emotional reactions from beneficiaries, many of whom described the act as timely and life-saving.
In addition to providing food, Sir Izegbu’s aides also visited the Onicha-Ugbo Health Centre, where he cleared the medical bills of several patients, including a heavily pregnant woman who was struggling to raise funds for her treatment. Patients and their families were full of gratitude, describing his intervention as a huge relief in their moment of distress.
Speaking from London during the outreach, Sir Izegbu said he was motivated by his belief that true leadership is about service, compassion, and uplifting others, especially those at the grassroots who often feel neglected.
“For me, birthdays are not just about celebration. They are an opportunity to reflect on God’s blessings and extend those blessings to people who need them the most. I find fulfillment in putting smiles on people’s faces, particularly the vulnerable in my community,” he said.
Community leaders, youths, and women groups who witnessed the gesture lauded Sir Izegbu’s humanitarian disposition, describing him as a grassroots politician with a human face. Izegbu’s leadership style of prioritizes the welfare of the people over personal comfort.
Sir Laurence Izegbu, a former Senior Special Assistant to Governor Okowa on Local Content, known for his consistent engagement with his people, has over the years built a reputation as a man deeply rooted in charity, community development, and grassroots mobilization. His latest birthday outreach further reinforced his commitment to serving humanity and using his influence to positively impact lives.
The event ended with prayers and goodwill messages from community members, who wished him long life, strength, and greater opportunities to continue his philanthropic works.
