The Anambra State Police Command has recorded another breakthrough in its fight against sexual and gender-based violence, with the arrest of two suspects in separate child defilement cases. The arrests were made following reports that were transferred to the Gender Unit of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for discreet investigation. Medical evidence has also been secured to prove the suspects’ culpability, and both cases are expected to be charged to court on Wednesday, August 20, 2025.
Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, who confirmed the development on Tuesday, said the Command is resolute in pursuing justice for victims of sexual violence.
According to Ikenga, the first case, transferred from CPS Onitsha on August 8, involved one Emmanuel Sampson, who resides in Odoakpu, Onitsha. Sampson allegedly lured his neighbour’s 8-year-old daughter under the pretext of giving her food before unlawfully defiling her.
Similarly, on August 14, another case was transferred from the 3-3 Division. Preliminary investigations revealed that ThankGod Damian, a security guard in a housing estate, lured a 13-year-old girl into an uncompleted building where he allegedly had unlawful carnal knowledge of her.
The Police Command has reiterated its commitment to bringing offenders to justice and urged parents and guardians to remain vigilant, while promptly reporting suspected cases to the nearest police station for swift action.
