Minister of Defence, Mohammed Badaru Abubakar, has clarified that the All Progressives Congress (APC) won his polling unit in the just-concluded Garki/Babura Federal Constituency by-election, contrary to reports circulating online that suggested otherwise.
In a statement issued on Sunday, the Minister’s office described the online claims as “false and misleading,” stressing that they stemmed from a misidentification of his polling unit.
According to the official results released by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and announced by the Returning Officer, APC secured victory at Babura Kofar Arewa Primary School, Polling Unit 002 (PU 002), where Badaru cast his vote. The APC polled 188 votes, while the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) scored 164.
“These authentic results confirm a clear victory for APC at Babura Kofar Arewa Primary School, Polling Unit 002,” the statement read.
The Minister’s office faulted reports that had earlier suggested he lost his polling unit, explaining that those reports mistakenly referred to PU 001 instead of PU 002.
“We categorically reject the inaccurate reports circulating online that misidentified the polling unit as PU 001 and wrongly asserted the Minister lost his polling unit.
Such reports are false and misleading,” said Mati Ali, Personal Assistant on Media and Publicity to the Minister.
The Defence Minister further urged party members, supporters, and the public to rely only on official results as declared by INEC and to disregard unverified online claims.
