The Anambra State Police Command has said that the ongoing bye-election in the state has remained largely peaceful, with joint security patrols effectively containing all reported incidents.
In a statement issued on Saturday, the Command explained that the police-led security operations are being carried out in collaboration with operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS), the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), and the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC).
The security agencies, it noted, have been stationed across strategic locations to ensure peace, protect voters, and safeguard the integrity of the electoral process.
The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, who signed the statement, dismissed speculation about unrest or rifts in some parts of the state. He stressed that the situation across Anambra remains calm and under control.
Meanwhile, the Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of the election duty, AIG Godwin Eze, urged individuals and groups with grievances to submit their complaints through the designated Election Desk Officers for proper investigation. He warned against resorting to self-help or actions capable of breaching the peace.
“The Command assures residents and stakeholders that every genuine complaint will be accorded the utmost seriousness and professionalism it deserves,” Ikenga stated.
The police further appealed to the public to remain law-abiding, cooperate with security personnel, and disregard unverified reports that could trigger unnecessary panic.
Election monitoring, according to the police, is ongoing, and updates on developments will be communicated to the public as events unfold.
