Christopher Musa, Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), has reaffirmed the military’s commitment to restoring lasting peace in Plateau State and other areas under the joint security framework of Operation Safe Haven.
During a visit to the operation’s headquarters in Jos on Friday, Musa assured residents that the armed forces are revisiting and enhancing their strategies to curb violent attacks and criminal activities in the region.
According to a statement signed by Tukur Gusau, Director, Defence Information, Musa acknowledged the complexity of the security threats in Plateau and neighbouring states, stressing that the military must adapt its tactics to better respond to the asymmetric and evolving nature of the conflict.
He called on traditional and community leaders to work closely with the security agencies by encouraging youths to expose criminal elements within their midst.
“We must take decisive actions to halt the cycle of violence affecting Plateau and neighbouring states experiencing similar challenges,” CDS declared.
He emphasized accountability within the military ranks and pledged that any commander found wanting in the discharge of their responsibilities would be held responsible.
He also promised enhanced logistical support to boost the operational effectiveness of troops on the ground.
While briefing the CDS on recent successes and ongoing efforts, Eyitayo Folusho Oyinlola, Commander of Operation Safe Haven and General Officer Commanding 3 Division of the Nigerian Army, acknowledged the persistent challenges, noting that the operation has made significant progress in reducing threats and protecting vulnerable communities.
He said the command has strengthened its collaboration with other security agencies to improve intelligence gathering and operational efficiency.
“We are determined not to relent until peace is fully restored and visibly felt across every part of our joint area of operation,” he told the CDS.
Earlier in the day, Musa inspected key military installations, including the Nigerian Army Medical Centre at Tigi and Sector 6 in Jebbu Bindi, Riyom Local Government Area.
At the medical centre, he commended the healthcare personnel and pledged additional support to ensure the facility provides top-quality care to both troops and civilians in surrounding communities.
In Jebbu Bindi, Musa addressed frontline soldiers, urging them to remain vigilant and committed to their duties.
He underscored the importance of fostering strong ties with local communities to strengthen trust and facilitate intelligence-driven operations.
Communities in Plateau State, in particular, have witnessed repeated attacks over the past months, prompting calls for more decisive military intervention.
